What exactly is medical equipment?

Medical equipment is an instrument, article, machine, or apparatus used in the performance and measurement of tests, diagnosis, detection, or restoring, correcting, or modifying the structure or function of the body for a medical purpose. Medical devices can also be used to treat certain diseases.

Types of medical equipment

There are several basic types of medical equipment:

Medical laboratory equipment: A medical lab requires a wide range of equipment to perform medical tests such as biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests on a daily basis in an efficient and accurate manner.

Diagnostic equipment: includes medical imaging machines used in diagnoses, such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, x-ray machines, and PET.

Medical monitors: enable the assessment of a patient’s medical status. Monitors can measure vital signs and other parameters such as ECG, EEG, and blood pressure. they can also be used in the home for specific purposes, such as controlling diabetes mellitus.

Treatment equipment: includes infusion pumps, medical lasers, and LASIK surgical machines.

Physical therapy machines: such as continuous passive range of motion (CPM) machines.
